What a guy!

I went to the KCRW studios today and saw this great portrait of David Lynch. He was a guest on Morning Becomes Eclectic there recently and he sounded far more normal than one might have guessed. He also sounded as completely wonderful as you'd have hoped too.

By far the most magical, totally terrifying and hauntingly beautiful show (ever) is Twin Peaks. I watched a few episodes recently and its strangeness stands the test of time, still sending chills down my spine.

God Save The Queen

Coming soon to a retail space near me! So very English and yet so perfect for LA, she'll be right at home just like the rest of us.

Some Family History

Earlier today my Father sent me some pages of our family tree. I had been told about John Emary, a Mayfair tailor who established the British brand Aquascutum in 1851 and who by all accounts invented the trench coat. Greta Garbo wore them and she knew a thing or two about style.

Looking through the pages this afternoon I worked out John Emary was my Great-great-great-Grandfather. Perhaps that's why I've always had a thing for the trench coat.

Form is Sculpture

Collaborations and everyone working with everyone else had been overdone for too long.

Or so I thought until I discovered the +J line at Uniqlo last year. Pure is not boring. It's clean, it's simple, it's detailed, it's amazing to wear and it's made me re-think my preconceptions about names and brands working together. Like most things, when it's done well you won't tire of it and when it's clothing designed by the doyenne of minimalism, it will never go out of fashion.

The Humble Plastic Bag

This Jil Sander hobo reminds me of the lowly corner shop carrier bag, normally found containing a pint of milk, cigarettes and a packet of crisps or digestive biscuits.

Finished off with a leather handle and clearly not made of "look-at-me-and-I'll-tear" plastic, the colour is bang on. I wonder if it was meant that way. Corner shop chic for the on-going recessionista.

Easy elegance

I am a huge fan of Richard Nicoll's crisp, clean lines so I was intrigued to see what he would produce when focused on ever-so British brand Fred Perry.

A feminine palette of soft peach, teal and cream blends and simple shapes creates a delicious capsule wardrobe for Springtime. My favourite is this dress that somehow has something of the 1920s about it.

Springtime

I was so bummed I didn't buy these when they came out in 2008. Sweet hi-tops combined with nostalgic fabrics from my favourite department store Liberty. They were sitting in the Opening Ceremony window on Howard Street in the middle of a sumptuous display of peonies, roses, tulips... It was gorgeous and a refreshing burst of nature in the middle of concrete.

So for 2011 Nike has continued a good thing with 4 more takes on this winning combination.

These are my favourites of the four, duck egg blue is always a winner in my book.

Unutterably glamorous

Whilst researching a forthcoming project I have been delving in to books and reveling in the pages, it's always so good to look at printed matter rather than a screen. Here, the holiest of the holy trinity that was Linda, Claudia and Naomi bursts off the page in Gianfranco Ferre (Vogue, 1991) and still looks fresh. Totally unrelated to the project but who couldn't be distracted by that outfit and that face.

Feels like Spring.

prayers of many summers come

to roost on a moment

until it sinks under them

and they resume their journey

flying by night

with the sound

of blood rushing in an ear

A bit of London in LA

Saw some beautiful Antoni and Alison scarves at TENOVERSIX today. They look so fresh and bright hanging in the sunlit store.

Shoe of The Season

Unrelated to yesterday's Prada homage but coincidentally I have spied my shoe of the season. Raffia effect, woven and multi-coloured, this shoe has everything going for it. Divine. I think Red wins though.

Prada, Marfa, Texas

I know this is a few years old but it's such a great image.
Prada's particular high-luxe, the desert background, the fact it's in Texas. Excellente!
